OC and AC insurance
How to track OC and AC insurance for a vehicle
OC is mandatory in Poland, AC is optional, but both are easy to lose track of if documents sit across email and files. Record each policy as a separate item with its coverage period.
What to record
Add insurer name, policy number, start and end date, premium, coverage scope and a PDF or photo of the document.
- For OC, record whether the premium is paid once or in installments.
- For AC, note key exclusions, deductible and claim process if they matter to the vehicle user.
Reminder timing
Set reminders earlier than the last day of coverage. A sensible minimum is 30 days before expiry, 7 days before expiry and separate installment reminders.
- Do not record only the expiry date. Add a date for contacting the insurer or comparing offers.
- After renewal, add a new policy record instead of overwriting old history.
After selling the car
The seller should give the buyer OC confirmation and notify the insurer about the sale. The Polish Financial Ombudsman describes a 14-day deadline for informing the insurer.
- Record the sale date, buyer details needed for notification and proof that the insurer was informed.
- Separately notify the registration authority, because this is different from contacting the insurer.
